In 1925 the City planned to relocate the abattoir in Place André-Meunier. The new building by Jacques Debat-Ponsan was opened in 1938 and, according to Jacques d'Welles, an architect from the City, succeeded in bringing the "harmony of a genuine monument" to what was initially just a factory. The commercial, sanitary and administrative sections occupied the centre of the complex, marked by a turret. The slaughter house, stables, cowsheds and pigsties are spread out on both sides. The great hall housing the market marks the high point of the composition.
