According to historical records, Saint-Rémi Church (now known as the Espace Saint-Rémi) can trace its roots back to the early Middle Ages. The parish was founded in 507 by Clovis when he was visiting Bordeaux.
The current building’s construction took place in stages from the 11th to the 15th Centuries. During the Revolution, the church was no longer used and its furniture was disposed of. Then, the church became first an animal-feed shop, then a tax free shop and a stables, a garage, and a repository for the museum of Aquitaine

In 1962 and 1991, various restoration programmes were undertaken. In 1998, Bordeaux’s local council decided to renovate the building to turn it into a cultural facility specially designed for concerts and exhibitions from the year 2000.
The building has been classed as a historic monument by decree since 26th August 1923.
