Church Of Saintmartial

The church was built between 1839 and 1841 by the architect François Bonfin on the instigation of Canon Rigagnon in response to the needs of this neighbourhood, linking the Chartrons and Bacalan, which was growing at that time.
Its architectural style is resolutely Neoclassical. Its interior was inspired by early Christian basilicas. The bell-tower does not date from its construction. It was built by the architect Charles Burguet from 1852 to replace the one that had originally been built on the façade, which had to be pulled down due to unstable foundations.
