BORDEAUX OCEAN PORT (2/8)
Dry docks
Mémoire de Bordeaux
TPP01722
The first dry dock, intended to carry out the repair and maintenance of ocean-going ships, was constructed at the same time as the floating basins. The creation of a second, smaller, dry dock was decreed in 1892. These constructions are elongated in shape and are 110- and 150-metres long and 15-metres wide. The sides of the two basins are built from very thick limestone masonry; staircases serve them all the way up allowing the workmen to work on the entire area of a ship's hull.
