Maison Gobineau

The balcony and balustrades of the "house" of Thibault-Joseph de Gobineau, Parliamentary Councillor, designed by the architect Victor Louis and completed in 1789, are pointed toward the Grand Theatre.
This tenement house is the cornerstone of the alignment of what was to become the Cours du XXX juillet and the eastern façade of the Allées de Tourny, forming the beginnings of a neighbourhood developed in the 19th century on site of Chateau Trompette. Around 1920, the creation of a double attic space changed its proportions.
In 1951, the architect Raymond Mothe completed the luxurious decoration of this house of wine with a particular René Buthaud’s stained glass windows and a tapestry by Marc Saint-Saëns. Since 1948, it has been the headquarters of the Bordeaux Wine Council.
