Maison Cantonale

Designed in 1903, it was built ten years later between 1913 and 1926 by the architect Cyprien Alfred-Duprat.
A multi-functional building, it was intended to house a room for celebrations and conferences, a public library, a police station, and a justice of the peace.
Its plan follows a highly symmetrical and ordered design.
Its elevation, however, makes use of many decorative effects inspired by Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The materials used, stone, brick, sandstone, and mosaic also liven up the façade with their variety.
The arms of Bordeaux, the pine branches, and vines that decorate its high gables were sculpted by Edmond Tuffet.
