Cours Mably
The building, constructed between 1684 and 1707 according to the plans of the architect and king’s engineer Pierre Duplessy-Michel, was part of the former Dominican monastery. Nationalised under the French Revolution, in 1790 it became the headquarters of the Society of Friends of the Constitution, the first political club created in Bordeaux. It was refurbished between 1886 and 1889 by the architect Charles Durand to house the municipal library and the lapidary arts museum.
The Cour Mably and the former chapter house have been transformed into a cultural venue for the City of Bordeaux, and play host to events and temporary exhibitions.
