Buscaillet Crèche and Public Baths
This complex located on Place Adolphe-Buscaillet comprising a crèche, dispensary, and public baths was created by the architect Pierre Ferret between 1930 and 1937, while Adrien Marquet was mayor.
A modern aesthetic prevailed: straight lines, curves at the entrances, the only decorative elements are the wrought-iron grills and the medallion created by the sculptor Binquet, depicting the arms of Bordeaux, and the bas-reliefs depicting toys in an Art Deco style. In 1939, compared to other establishments of this type in Bordeaux, the Bacalan public baths were the largest and most beautiful in the City. The city council was thus displaying the modernity and hygienism that it wanted to instil into the working-class neighbourhoods.
