This square bears the name of the Church of Notre-Dame-du-Chapelet, built between 1684 and 1707 according to the plans of the king’s architect and engineer, Pierre Duplessy-Michel. It was in this church that the funeral of the painter Francisco Goya y Lucientes was held on April 17, 1828, following his death the day before in his last home in Bordeaux, on the third floor of a building situated at 39, FossĂ©s de l’Intendance, which is now 57, Cours de l’Intendance.
