Capucins

Located on the site of the medieval gate of the Capucins, this square, just like Place de la Victoire, is evidence of the urban planning of the Enlightenment (regular and symmetrical geometric lines).
It was initially separated into two squares, one known as "interior" and the other "exterior", separated by a gate flanked with payment counters marking the symbolic (and fiscal) entrance to the city.
This redevelopment created the need to build "schematic" façades of modest architecture, which were abandoned. The Capucins Gate (1744) was destroyed in 1882 by the expansion and extension of the Rue Clare.
